Currently Not In Print Guests of the Emperor
Privileged and innocent, they thought they were protected from the ravages of the Second World War. But when Singapore fell early to the Japanese, there was no escape and hundreds of British and American women were sent to an isolated prison camp, as guests of the Emperor." Terrified, outraged, and abandoned, four very different women must find the strength of survival from deep within--to fight the enemy with their spirit, passion, and the dream of freedom.
My best historical. It was an ‘important' book I wish everyone could read. The movie made of it runs occasionally on the Lifetime Channel. It comes in two different cover treatments. (Mouse over the cover to see the other one) Published 1990.
The Herron Heritage- a modern version of the King Arthur story. Only published in Great Britain. Published in 1992 by Headline House.
Cinnamon Wharf - My very favorite heroine. Set in England and Singapore in the 1800s and a lot of interesting background about the spice trade. Possibly still in print in Great Britain. Published 1988.
Crown Sable - an historical soap-opera saga and a lot of fascinating stuff about the fur trade. Set in New York. A Scarlett type main character you'll love to hate. "Get a grip on your ambition, Irene!" Possibly still in print in Great Britain. Published 1987.
The Circling Years - set in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Another multi-generational saga. Possibly still in print in Great Britain. Published in 1986.
Glory - another of my favorites. Set in the Gold Rush. VERY hard to find but great fun to read. I got the idea when I'd just seen THE RAINMAKER and when Burt Lancaster said, "Are you coming with me, Lizzie?" I wondered what he'd have done if she had responded, "Yes, I believe I will." I think Dell distributed 16 copies nationwide. Published 1985.
Our Lives, Our Fortunes - set in Colonial North Carolina. A nice, sweet romance and all you'd ever want to know about indigo. Published 1984.
Still the Mighty Waters - set in midwest in the early 1800's. There's a terrific earthquake, a real one, that made the Mississippi River run backwards. Published 1983.
Seventrees - my second favorite of the books I've written. Set in the Midwest. One of those old-fashioned 3 generation juicy reads. I'm hoping to get it reprinted soon. Published 1981.
Lady of Fire, Seaflame, and Oriana - a trio of loony, funny bodice-rippers by "Valerie Vayle," a collaboration. Published 1980 and 1981.
Forbidden Fires - not my title, but a pretty good story about the Princes in the Tower. Published 1977.
Ozark Legacy - I cut my writing teeth on this gothic novel as "Amanda Singer." Published 1975.
Kings and Queens: The Plantagenets of England, (The non-fiction textbook), Published in 1976.

And two other historical novels I never admit to and would beg you to ritually burn if you find them. Sometimes newbie editors make a hash of book. Sometimes it's the writer who messes it up all by herself.
